For nearly eight years, Diane and I weren’t just colleagues—we became work besties, the kind who finish each other’s sentences and know exactly what the other needs before a word is spoken. That bond? It became the foundation of something bigger.
How JCS Came to Life
Picture this: I’m on my first trip to the US, working with a different company supporting EDI, and this idea just wouldn’t let me go. Powered by dreams and an unhealthy amount of caffeine, I reached out to Diane at some ungodly hour with a question that would change everything: “Want to start a business together?”
Without hesitation, she said yes.
Within weeks, Diane built our website. Then came our first conference in March 2025, where I ran into my former colleague, Liz Fickensher who was instrumental for having joined that event and my old boss, wonderful mentor, Colleen Quattlebaum. That serendipitous coffee chat? It turned into our very first client referral. Sometimes the universe just aligns.
But here’s the thing—this wasn’t even our first rodeo. Diane had a tire business that I invested in years ago. We had a good run until the pandemic hit. I got my investment back, lessons learned, and life moved on.
Then life really happened.
The Real Story
I became a mom to my beautiful Peony, and I was filled with joy I didn’t know existed. I thought, “This is it—time to adult properly and maybe even meal prep like those influencers on Instagram.”
But life had other plans.
Postpartum depression hit me like a freight train driven by someone who definitely didn’t signal. Suddenly, I realized I had zero boundaries—despite spending years convincing everyone (including myself) that I had it all together. The irony wasn’t lost on me, even through the fog.
My body decided to stage a full rebellion. My personal life imploded in ways I’m still processing. And just when I thought things couldn’t get more complicated, there I was—financially drained, emotionally exhausted, and somehow expected to just bounce back and return to “normal.”
Spoiler alert: There is no bouncing back. There’s only moving forward, one messy step at a time.
And that’s how I ended up here, writing this, building JCS with Diane, and pouring everything I’ve learned into creating something meaningful—because when life gives you lemons, apparently you start a consulting business.
